Initial Film Idea

Theme

The dominant theme of the film is suicide. The protagonists father has killed himself, and as a result, the protagonist is looking for ways of venting his anger.

 

Character

The main character of this film is a teenage boy, no older than 16. He develops emotional difficulties in dealing with his fathers death.

Unity of Time, Place and Action

The main character feels extreme resentment towards his father – why has he just him and his mother alone?

Most of the action takes place during the early morning, but some action takes place at night.

Predicament

The protagonist must find a way of dealing with his father’s recent suicide.

Dilemma

After feeling such strong resentment to a member of his own family, the character decides between two choices; does he accept what has happened, and try to move on with his own life? Or does he take more extreme measures to stop his anguish?

Conflict

The main character tries to confide in one of his best friends about his current situation; the problem is that his friend is a devout Christian, and so, has very strong beliefs on the matter of suicide.

After looking over the initial idea, I realised that adding the dynamic of religion into the plot would confuse the viewer, and might draw attention away from the actual plotline. So, I decided to withdraw the "conflict".
